What can I do to prepare my feet for the big 26.2?

Shoes: The most important thing for your feet when training for a marathon is to have proper fitting running shoes. Taking things like width and depth into account along with the regular sizing of the shoe is imperative to finding the perfect fit. Choose brands that offer a variety of sizing options, and do not be afraid to shop around to find exactly what you need. It is also helpful to note that shoes usually start wearing out around 300 miles, and should be retired between 300 and 500 miles.

Socks: The importance of a good pair of socks is often lost in all of the hype surrounding finding the right shoes. However, socks are just as important, as ill-fitting or styles made from certain fabrics can cause blisters or rubbing. Long distance runners can benefit greatly from socks made from synthetic materials like acrylic, which wick moisture, in the correct thickness for their individual needs. 

Taking care of corns: If you have corns or areas of the feet where the shoes rub or irritate during training, corn pads may solve the problem, and are sold over the counter at most drug stores. Development of severe corns could mean that the shoes or socks you are training in should be replaced.
