With that being said, if you're scheduled for surgery with him or are planning on seeing him and suspect you might need surgery, it could be to your benefit to know what to expect during surgery.

General Information

First and foremost, we'd like to note that when you visit us for foot surgery in the Bronx, NY, your experience may be slightly different from other patients who come to visit us. Your experience will vary based on the type of surgery our doctor is performing as well as the severity of the situation.

Preparing Ahead

Before your procedure, our podiatric surgeon will go over the process for your particular procedure. We'll inform you of the date of your surgery as well as how you'll need to prepare, such as if you'll need to stop any medications, avoid eating, or any other instructions. We'll also provide you with the timeline you should follow for preparing for your surgery.

The Day of Your Surgery

On the day of surgery, you'll be prepped for the procedure. You may be given a general anesthetic, or local, or regional block with sedation to keep you calm and pain-free throughout the procedure. We'll discuss with you the one best suited for you based on your particular surgery and health. That way, you can prepare ahead for it as necessary.

You'll be given the anesthetic first. Once it's taken effect, our practitioner will perform the procedure, which you may not possibly be awake for.

The amount of time the procedure takes will depend upon the surgery itself and the severity of your condition. We'll usually let you know in advance what you can expect.

After Your Surgery

After your surgery, you may feel a bit groggy once you wake up if had a general anesthetic. The same applies to any type of sedative. You'll need to remain under our care so we can watch you to ensure the anesthetic or sedative wears off. Depending on what we used, you might not be able to drive yourself home, but we'll discuss that with you before surgery day so you can prepare.

Initially, you won't have any pain or discomfort. Once the anesthetic wears off, though, you may feel pain or sore at the site.
